Russian Cuisine: Simple and Clear
The cold harsh winter is behind us and spring is almost here and every Russian knows what that means: Maslenitsa is just around the corner!
Masletnitsa is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday. It is celebrated during the last week before Great Lent (during which meat, fish, dairy products and eggs, as well as parties, secular music, dancing and other distractions from the spiritual life are forbidden) and therefore represents the last chance to enjoy dairy products and those social activities that are not appropriate during the more prayerful, sober and introspective Lenten season. During Maslenitsa it is a custom in Russia to eat as many blinis (Russian pancakes) as you can so Lucien would like to invite you to our pancakes of the world master cooking class!
In this master class we will tell you all about the history and traditions of this beloved Russian holiday. Our head confectioner Marina will then show you how to prepare three different kinds of pancakes: yeast pancakes based on kefir served with marmalade, honey, jam and condensed milk, followed by thin French “crepe Suzette” with orange-based sauce and finally thin blinchiki with orange cream cheese and with meat. As always in Lucien you will get to get your hands in the dough and follow Marina’s step by step instructions to create your own pancake masterpieces!
Lucien loves to spoil its guests so you can expect other treats in the form of traditional Russian samovar and tasty nibbles.
Cost of the master cooking class: 1500RUB per participant to cover the costs of the ingredients used. Please note that the ingredients are purchased according to the number of participants registered so if you plan on coming, please confirm your participation by February 28th.
We’d love for you to join us at Lucien for this Maslenitsa-themed master cooking class on March 2nd at 13.00 o'clock!
